Bean Feast

Today on the stairlift farm, I am having my very own Bean Feast.

The Executive Bean Carrier is busily occupied with important office-y stuff, taking and making phone calls, shuffling invoices distractedly and exercising her nimble fingers on the calculator with great aplomb, so I have sneaked off with Bean for wander round the stairlift farm.

It is a bitingly cold day but Bean is snuggled in many layers of cosy, furry, thermal baby-suits, hats and mittens and could probably survive a stroll around the Arctic Circle.  We wander past the Mobility Scooters' field but they have mostly retreated to the Stairlift Farm Stable where the bales of straw provide some insulation from the chill outside. Mobility Scooters can withstand very cold weather but generally prefer to have a rider to make the journey worthwhile and provide mutual warmth and company. With a snoozing Bean curled against me like a fuzzy hot water bottle, I can empathise with them.

We make our way to the Stairlift Barn, where some young stairlifts are having a step aerobics class. This helps to build their stamina, and prevent dizziness should their eventual owners be slightly absent minded and forget whether they are going up or down stairs and so keep changing direction.

Our final stop is at the Curved Stairlift Nursery. Curved stairlifts have to be grown to order and it is a very complex business indeed, requiring specialist training and a great deal of patience.

As we meander back into the Stairlift Farm kitchen, the Executive Bean Carrier is just emerging with Bean's car seat. Time for another journey for Bean - off to collect the Mini Stairlift Boss from school.

And time for me to settle down with a nice cuppa to round off my Bean Feast!

Lovely!

You Raise Me Up.....

Today on the stairlift farm we are giving thanks for the lovely people who choose our stairlifts for their homes.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of being a stairlift farmer is the wealth of wonderful people we get to meet through our work. When the phone rings there is always a ripple of excitement. Who is this going to be? What will they be like? Will they just ask us to tell them more about stairlifts or possibly invite the Superstair Boss over for a visit to talk about how to fit a stairlift into their home.

Some people believe that their home is too small to allow them the comfort and freedom of a stairlift, however there is always a solution! The Superstair Boss is an absolute whizz at finding ways to fit stairlifts into any home with stairs and our customers are delighted to be able to access all areas of their home, sometimes after being restricted to downstairs rooms for years. No wonder they end up being more like friends or extended family!

One happy customer recently sang a rather appropriate song as she rode her stairlift upstairs for the first time.......

Here's to all the friends, old, new and yet to be met! Onwards and upwards!

Rainy Tuesday follows Marvellous Monday Shocker!

Today on the stairlift farm it is a very rainy Tuesday and we are feeling chilly and rather damp around the edges.

In contrast, last night we were glowing with delight as we celebrated Chinese New Year and the arrival of the Year of the Dragon by decorating the farm with homegrown auspicious apples and lanterns made from old stairlift brochures. Then we feasted on chinese dumplings and mooncakes, while the young stairlifts did their own version of a dragon dance up and down the training rails. Firecrackers and fireworks finished off a marvellous Monday evening.

Endings or Beginnings?

Today on the stairlift farm we are contemplating Fridays.

For some people Friday is the end of a busy week, time to relax and recover from the exertions of day to day life. A chance to chill out, rest, enjoy some peace and quiet.

For others Friday is the beginning of an all-action weekend. Parties, sports, shopping, socialising. The mundane routine of weekdays is their downtime.

Which type are you? Or does Friday have a different meaning for you? If you follow certain religions it may have a special significance. Or if you live apart from loved ones during the week it may be a time of reunion. Sadly for some, weekends can be a very lonely time.

On the stairlift farm, as with any farm, the work never completely stops. The young stairlifts will need attention, whatever else is going on.  But we will still find time for some fun.

Tomorrow I will be joining the Great Aunts at a local welly-chucking competition. They are both keen participants in the sport of mobility scooter welly-chucking and can often been seen practicing down in the field with our herd of mobility scooters, who charge around gleefully trying to avoid being 'wellied'.

Whether your Friday heralds an active weekend or a weekend of peace, here is a mellow little Friday stairlift discocoa tune to get you started....

Enjoy!

Smile Therapy

Today on the stairlift farm we are being community minded.  While the 21st Century Stairlift Boss is off settling two stairlifts into their new homes, I have been calling round some local community groups to say hello.

Many of us are scared to make the first move in starting a conversation with someone we don't know, but it's often very rewarding to share a few words or a laugh and a joke with someone else. Basically we're all the same!

So why not start with a smile at a lonely looking stranger... it could lead to a beautiful friendship!

Frost Bite

Today on the stairlift farm it has been a cold and frosty morning  - ALL day!

We have been shivering in our wellies as we crunch through the thick frost on our way around the farm tending to the stock. I sincerely hope this icy weather doesn't stunt the growth of our newly mulched stairlift rail plants - certainly the winter flowering pansies in my window box were looking a little chilled around the edges and will probably turn to mush once they thaw out. Sad face. The stairlift rail plants are not giving any indication one way or the other so we will keep our fingers crossed and hope they survive.

Our herd of mobility scooters are happy in any weather. Their coats keep them warm and dry and they love to be out and about, in fact they get very unhappy if they are shut up inside for any length of time and can't roam.

Stairlifts however, dislike the outdoors (with a few exceptions - there are some tougher varieties bred for life in the open air). Young stairlifts need to be kept indoors where they can get lots of exercise on the practice rails and put together dance routines for their own amusement  - and ours!

Two young stairlifts are leaving us tomorrow to go to their new homes and begin their stairlift careers. How exciting for them! Of course we will stay in touch with their new families and still see them for their annual service so it's not farewell for ever just.......Cheery-bye!

WhereThere's Muck, There's Stairlifts....

Today on the Stairlift Farm we have mostly been muck-spreading.

Yesterday we received a huge delivery of stairlift fertiliser and, as any experienced stairlift farmer knows, fertiliser needs to be distributed around the stairlift rail plants without delay. Proper feeding is essential for a stairlift rail to grow tall, straight and strong. Yet, what many people don't realise is that the old saying 'where there's muck, there's brass' originated in stairlift farming. The first stairlift rails were nurtured with chicken muck and brass filings and produced beautiful gleaming rails, that were often the pride and joy of their owners.

Nowadays stairlift fertiliser contains a rich mixture of minerals to ensure healthy growth and a strong but lightweight rail to suit all properties. However, unless the fertiliser is spread with alacrity and enthusiasm within 48 hours of delivery the metals start to oxidise and the plants risk becoming infected with rust.

Happily we shouldn't have that problem this year. Our muck-spreading was successfully completed on time. Now we're off for the Spreader's Feast to celebrate!

Enjoy your own repast this evening. Cheery-bye!

Lifting your Spirits (or other favoured beverage!)

Today on the stairlift farm we are feeling mellow and contented. The day is cold and crisp with a brisk breeze sending the mottled clouds scudding across a baby blue sky. A day for snuggling up on your trusty stairlift with a big mug of cocoa and riding up and down to your favourite songs.

We call it  a stairlift discocoa! Enjoy!

Is There Anybody There?

Today on the stairlift farm we are battling with atrociously bad phone connections and would like to apologise to anyone trying to speak to us for the fact that we just can't hear you!

To add to the annoyance we were hoping to be able to ring up lots of our stairlift customers today to wish them a Happy New Year and see if there was any services we could provide for them.

Lets hope the Telephone Man can sort something out soon!

(Made me think of this song - do you remember it? Listen to Telephone Man)

Please be assured that your calls will now be transferred to The Superstair Boss' mobile phone - so you can still reach us in an emergency.

In order to keep busy while the main phones are under repair I am writing lots of letters to our Valued Customers to tell them all about our new stairlift Cover Plan (which is the Stairlift Farm equivalent of pet insurance!) so you can be sure that if your stairlift is out of sorts or needs a bit of retraining we can come along and help as soon as possible, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

It matters to us that you and your stairlift are happy and working well in harmony together.

Please have look at our little film which shows how our 21st Century Stairlift Repair Man will battle anything to get your stairlift fixed for you!

Our 21st Century Stairlift Repair Man comes to the rescue

Keep on smiling!

Sunday, Sweet Sunday...

Today on the stairlift farm we were under invasion!

The Bean is proving to be a popular local attraction and the prospect of a vast roast dinner didn't seem to put anyone off either. Late morning, the Great Aunts roared up on their open-top turbo mobility scooters (nicknamed Desirée's Dragonfly and Ariadne's Arthritis-mobile) and proceeded to play pass the baby-parcel statues. This is a popular family game which involves passing the baby around, and when she stops crying everyone stands still like statues. The first one to wobble before the baby starts crying again is out and so it goes on.

The Superstair Boss excelled himself with his roasting and hosting skills and the young stairlifts performed a display they had been perfecting secretly over the holidays to the tune of 'Lifted'.

We sat and chatted as the light faded, while Bean nuzzled up contentedly to the Executive Bean Snuggler.

Tomorrow we will start on some new stairlift adventures, but for now, what a lovely end to the day!

Nighty-night!

Woo-hoo for the weekend!

Today on the stairlift farm we are enjoying the simple pleasures. Dexy the farm kitten enjoyed the freedom to roam his surroundings instead of being quarantined indoors. His antics literally had me in tears of laughter.... finally exhausted he is now snuggled on my lap in contentment and satisfaction... what a happy kitty!

The evening was spent with the Great Aunts... barbeque ribs, rice and peas, jacket potatoes and salad... all followed with home baked apple pie... yummy!

Twelfth night caught me on the hop yesterday... the Christmas decorations are yet to be packed away... oh well .... mostly I am excited at the prospect of Sunday with the Superstair Boss, Mini stairlift boss, Executive Bean Carrier and Bean herself.... all together for snuggles, cuddles and celebrations!!!

Happy families indeed!!!

Which way is Oz? (Does the Wizard need a stairlift?)

Today on the stairlift farm we have been holding onto our hats!

It is blowing such a gale that I feared we might all get swept away to a mysterious Other World where stairlifts rule, mobility scooters run free and human beings nurture more and more complex stairlift rail systems so the stairlifts can travel around unhindered. How amazing! Would the world be a happier place if we were all stairlift farmers, I wonder.

Certainly there is a lot to be said for life on the stairlift farm. We have a great task raising stairlifts to new heights of achievement. Knowing that we are putting stairlifts into good homes where they will improve the life of their owners such a privilege. Who could ask for more?

Three cheers for windy Thursdays and the life of a stairlift farmer!

Cheery-bye!

Welcome to the World Bean!

Today on the Stairlift farm we are full of jubilation and felicitations!

The Executive Bean Carrier has finally popped her pod and now we can all get to carry Bean from time to time, as well as have a little cuddle, coo lullabies and occasionally get covered in baby vomit! Ahhwww!

Mother and baby are both doing well and we look forward to seeing Bean take her first ride in a stairlift in the not-too-distant future. Never too young to start!

The Mini Stairlift Boss has taken to big-brotherhood like a mobility scooter to pavement and as for the 21st Century Superstair Boss, well the double-Daddy is curled up asleep on some stairlift rails with a massive smile of pride and relief on his face.....

Welcome to the family Bean!

Happy Birthday Grandad Stairlift!

Today on the stairlift farm we are raising a glass to Grandad Stairlift, creator of Sterlington Stairlift, Tommy Cooper afficianado and witty prankster! Happy Birthday PW! Cheers!

Grandad Stairlift has reached the ripe old age of 7 in stairlift years, which are a bit different to human years, as you can imagine. He will be celebrating with jelly and custard and a nice meat pie with mash.... in that order. For desert he is trying to decide between tomato soup and prawn cocktail.

In celebration of his achievements we are declaring 2012 The Year of Sterlington Stairlift. This will involve a number of fun events, competitions and possibly a Sterlington themed mobilty scooter gymkhana with stairlift racing when the weather improves. More of these plans in the days to come....

For now I am off to polish the young stairlifts... they respond well to care and attention and frequent use. Some of them are ready to be homed now... Do let me know if you're interested!

Cheery-bye!

Happy New Year!

Today on the stairlift farm we are celebrating not only the arrival of 2012 but also the safe return of the prodigal Mini Stairlift Boss. Hurrah!

Far from being kidnapped by a jealous rival stairlift company the poor young man was in fact being held in thrall by The Great Aunts, who demanded he watched non-stop episodes of Dr Who whilst being force fed chocolate and satsumas... a terrible fate, you must agree.

Being a resourceful young man however, and not unfamiliar with the escapades of Enid Blyton's intrepid Famous Five, he effected his escape by cunningly tempting them with a trip to the shops, thus finding the weak spot in The Great Aunts defences by taking them to the 99p store. Once they were distracted by bargains, he called on the aid of superhero Music Girl who was with him in a trice and whisked him back to the safety of the stairlift farm. Phew!

Thus, last night, we celebrated New Year's Eve as never before!! The young stairlifts were delighted to have him back and let him ride up and down to his heart's content. The Executive Bean Carrier hugged him until he felt he could barely breathe and the The 21st Century Superstair Boss beamed with pride as he administered a manly pat on the back.

A Very Happy New Year Indeed!!!
